What does the proposal include?

The Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development is considering a proposal to amend the locality boundaries of Petrie and Kallangur.

Where did the place name suggestion come from?

On 21 March 2022, the City of Moreton Bay requested amendment of the locality boundaries of Petrie and Kallangur. The proposal will assist with the development and activation of The Mill at Moreton Bay Priority Development Area, by creating a sense of place and community cohesion, resolving possible future issues with addressing and improving the provision of postal and emergency services in the area.

What would be the change impact of residents and businesses in the area?

When a final decision is made, amending the locality boundary between Petrie and Kallangur will require affected residents and businesses to update their address to recognise the change.

How will I know if the proposal is approved and my address is changing?

If you would like to receive notification of the decision via email, you may request one through your submission.

Affected property owners and residents in the area will be notified of the decision by letter.

Updates will be available online through:

    • Engagement HQ (EHQ) consultation page (links to this page provided on The Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development home page as a feature tile, and the Current place name proposals/decisions web page)
    • Land Queensland Facebook and LinkedIn page.

    How are places named?

Consistent and accurate place names are the basis of a number of vital activities, including map production, communication services, population censuses and statistics, postal addresses, and emergency and postal services.

Because of this, Queensland follows strict place naming guidelines and processes. Place naming is primarily the responsibility of the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development which administers the Place Names Act 1994.

Place Names can also play an important role in the recognition of Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islander People’s culture and history. Many places across Queensland are derived from First Nations languages.

    Why should I get involved?

Your feedback helps the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development to ensure that any change will reflect the expectation of interested parties.
