Consultation is closed

The Aboriginal Land Regulation 2011 and the Torres Strait Islander Land Regulation 2011 (the Regulations) will soon expire and need to be remade, so we are opening discussion to make sure we get them right.

As part of this sunset review, we are meaningfully consulting with Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are affected by the Regulations to identify any changes or improvements that can be made for better outcomes.

We are seeking feedback on operational matters that could help better support land trusts in managing their land. This includes matters relating to:

  • payments that can be made by land trusts
  • the resignation process for members
  • appointing proxies
  • compliance requirements.

We want to first explore if there are issues, and, if so, how we can best address them.

While the consultation is mainly about matters relevant to land trusts, we are also asking all trustees of Aboriginal land and Torres Strait Islander land for their general thoughts and ideas on modernising the Regulations.

To have your say:

  • complete the feedback questions below, or
  • post a written submission (see Consultation papers for details).

Your feedback is important to us.
